BlueScope Lysaght's newly established facades business has created a showpiece project by transforming the exterior of the company's branch premises at Arndell Park in Sydney's west.
"The majority of the enquiries we have received have been about new building projects, but we wanted to demonstrate that our systems are equally suitable for refurbishments," BlueScope Lysaght Facades, General Manager, Catherine Jacob said.
"We offer the unique combination of design, supply and installation, rather than simply selling a product. That makes our offer very attractive to building owners or developers considering new building work or refurbishments. They can be confident that any facade work will be completely project managed."
The Arndell Park facade project involved the use of BlueScope Lysaght's new Azure™ and L'attitude™ profiles installed over the building's original precast concrete and rendered blockwall frontage.
Panels in both profiles were precision formed then painted using an advanced PVDF system to create custom colours which match corporate colours and existing elements of the building's design.
Each engineered facade panel was created on state of the art folding machinery, using the strength of 1.2mm BMT galvanised steel to guarantee durability and a dimple free result.
Azure™ and L'attitude™ profiles can be specified in a variety of depth, height, length and joint width dimensions. The Arndell Park project features Azure™ panels which are 885mm x 2172mm x 30mm thick and L'attitude™ panels which are 350mm x 1874mm x 35mm thick.
BlueScope Lysaght also offers facade customers a wide range of colour choice, including standard metallic and solid prepainted options. Custom colours can even be selected with specific gloss levels.
Panels for the dominant area of the Arndell Park facade were specified in Azure™ 200 profile in a custom blue colour.
Contrast was achieved by selecting a silver metallic finish for the L'attitude™ 200 panels which were used to clad the balance of the facade area.
All BlueScope Lysaght facade solutions are mounted on lightweight, high strength support systems which are custom designed to suit individual applications. They allow pressure equalised facades to be installed with exceptional precision.
The Azure™ 200 panels at Arndell Park were installed as an open vertical joint system over top hats which were painted to match their colour. L'attitude™ 200 panels were installed using sleeved joints.
Individual facade panels, custom trim and accessories were delivered to site in protective wrapping which was removed prior to installation.
"There were no special precautions taken with this job," Catherine Jacob said. "We treated it the same way in which we intend to treat every job."
"A site survey and a full occupational health and safety issues assessment were the starting point for the installation phase. As part of our project management and installation process we organised barricades, mobile scaffolding, knuckle booms and scissor lifts to meet our requirements."
Project Manager, Domenic Tuscano developed the design for the project, together with BlueScope Lysaght Facades Engineering Manager, Steven Halpin and technical drafting staff. Steven Halpin also coordinated scheduling and supply chain elements.
The two specialists were on site throughout the process to assist and supervise the installation of the facade in conjunction with installers G&H Aluminium Pty Ltd. This is a key element of the BlueScope Lysaght Facades market offer, which includes a total solutions package with full client service instead of the industry's more usual supply-only arrangement.

"After ten years in the facade industry, even taking off my BlueScope Lysaght hat, I can confidently say that this is a great product and worth serious consideration by anyone wanting a unique building effect," Domenic Tuscano said."The added benefit of custom designed profile trims around windows, louvres and openings provides a finishing touch to our facade systems which enhances their appearance beyond what can be achieved with more basic alternatives."
The comprehensive BlueScope Lysaght facade service includes direct contracting with builders, managed installation and the provision of a BlueScope Lysaght warranty covering facade elements and installation.
All components are manufactured in Australia using state of the art, proprietary machinery to achieve outstanding dimensional accuracy.
"We offer a fresh approach to facade options," Catherine Jacob said. "BlueScope Lysaght provides a brilliant alternative to composite architectural claddings."
